●EH500型機車共生產了82輛。該型機車為雙編組、八軸交直流電力機車，用於東京都和東北地區之間的貨運列車，以及關門隧道區間的貨運列車牽引。其設計因生產年份而異。

●由於2008年引進了駕駛輔助系統，目前正在拆除車頂安裝的GPS天線。

●此外，自2017年左右起，JR貨運自有機車兩側的JRF標記已被移除。
