●KiHa E120型於2008年作為羽越本線、磐越西線、米坂線的通用柴油機車投入生產。

●車身採用輕量化不鏽鋼材質，是前一年上市的三門KiHa E130型的雙門版本，底盤也採用與KiHa E130相同的行走系統。

●車內採用半十字座位佈局，並配備方便殘障人士使用的大型衛浴。

●共生產了8輛。

●2019年末，隨著只見線全面通車的臨近，車漆改為綠色，所有車輛均轉移至郡山綜合車輛中心（Sen-Kori）。

●截至2024年，它們仍在只見線上與KiHa 110型一起服役。
