●C57型是繼C55型之後的客運蒸汽機車，一直服役到1975年12月國鐵蒸汽機車退役為止。

●180號機車在國鐵時代主要運行於羽越本線和磐越西線，退役後被保存在新津第一小學，1999年恢復服役，目前運行於磐越西線的“SL磐越物語”號。

●新安裝了原本未配備的ATS-P，將ATS發電機更換為更大的發電機，安裝了常年運行的前部除雪機，從2024年4月起，外觀發生變化，更換了煙室把手，並拆除了煙囪等處的裝飾。
