●923係是東海道新幹線及山陽新幹線的電力軌道綜合試驗車，於2000年製造，目標是以270公里/小時的速度運行，並取代老化的922系。

●該列車由700系車廂組成，共7節車廂，其中1-3號車廂和6號車廂為電氣設備測量車，4號車廂為軌道設備測量車，其餘車廂用作會議室和導遊車廂。
