● E2-1000系列是2001年為配合東北新幹線八戶站開通而開發的，以原有的E2-0系列為基礎。 

● 與E2-0系列相比，此系列的側窗更大，受電弓也改為單臂受電弓。 

● 自2010年推出的附加型號起，該系列側面的目的地顯示器已擴大並改為全彩顯示。 

● 自2012年3月起，該系列與E3系列山形新幹線「翼號」列車（往返於東京和福島之間）聯運，取代了原有的E4系列列車。 

● 目前，此系列主要在東北新幹線「那須野號」列車上使用。
