● KiHa 55系列是1956年投入使用的半特快列車柴油動車組。

● 以KiHa 55型，衍生出雙引擎三等車、單引擎三等車KiHa 26型、全二等車KiRo 25型以及二等三等混合車KiRoHa 25型。

● 在生產過程中，KiHa 55、KiHa 26和KiRoHa 25型的車窗改為單扇滑動窗，外觀也隨之改變。

● KiHa 58系列投入使用後，所有KiHa 55、KiHa 26和KiRoHa 25型動車組均重新塗裝為與KiHa 58系列相同的特快列車塗裝，並用於特快和半特快列車。

● 20 世紀 60 年代末，由於乘客設施過時，KiRoHa 25 型車被降級為標準級車，但保留了原有的內飾，並更名為 KiHa 26-300 型車。
