- The Union Pacific (UP) is the largest railroad in the United States and dates back to the 1860s.

- Historic locomotives and rolling stock are kept in working condition and used for holiday events and special trips.

- For these excursion groups, when inviting the general public to ride on UP's preserved carriages, imposing locomotives such as FEF-3 #844 are used as [living legends] UP's SD70Ace locomotives.
