- The steam locomotive FEF (Four = 4 wheels, Eight = 8 wheels, Four = 4 wheels) of Union Pacific (UP), a railroad company in the western United States, was developed by UP to increase transportation capacity by increasing the size of locomotives. was introduced in. UP's first 4-8-4 large steam locomotive was built in 1939 after 20 FEF-1 type locomotives were delivered by American Locomotive. In 1944, UP's first 4-8-4 large steam locomotives were expanded to include 15 FEF-2 type locomotives with a driving wheel diameter of 2030 mm. -10 FEF-3 type cars were added as UP's last passenger steam locomotive. The last famous machine, No. 844, had its car number changed to No. 8444 during the rise of diesel locomotives, and has remained registered as a special train towing vehicle to this day. In 1987, the paint was changed to two-tone gray, and in 1989, when diesel locomotive (GP30) No. 844 was decided to be scrapped, the original number 844 was revived. After being repainted in black in 1996, FEF-3 #844 was preserved in a locomotive depot in Cheyenne, Wyoming, where it appeared at the front of event trains several times a year, becoming popular with railroad fans, families, and tourists alike
